TRIC2008 tritium interlaboratory comparison
The 8th IAEA tritium interlaboratory comparison TRIC2008 is open now for registration until 12 December 2008. It provides means to check the laboratory performance of ultra-low-level tritium analysis at environmental activity levels in water samples.
All low-level tritium laboratories are welcome to participate, which have the ability to quantitatively determine tritium activities in the range of 1 TU (0.1 Bq/kg) in water. Participation is limited to maximal 120 laboratories, subject to registration including submission of the completed questionnaire.
Again five fresh water samples were prepared covering the range up to 30 TU at quantities of 500mL each. A sixth sample (100 mL) has below 700 TU. All samples are provided in plastic bottles.
This time the registration as well as data submission will be dealt with per internet page. Registration is a two step process. It is now open via the TRIC 2008 homepage. At the end of registration, you have to download a PDF-questionnaire form, which you should complete and submit back by pressing the button at its end (in the questionnaire please use the same person/name as for registration!). All laboratories which have sent back the questionnaire have completed the registration.
Successful registration will be acknowledged by email within 10 days. After that, the parcel with the six samples will be shipped to the laboratory. Inside the parcel you will also find a letter with important information: the assigned TRIC2008 laboratory code (also printed on the bottles), the URL of the website form for submitting /entering the measured data, and the username and password for access to the website. This information will not be sent electronically. The data submission website will be open until end of reporting time (31 March 2009) for eventual correction of submitted data.
After 31 March 2009, no change to submitted data will be allowed anymore. It is planned that from 1 April 2009, each laboratory will be able to download from that website a first evaluation sheet comparing its own results with the reference values. Later on as usual a written report will be prepared compiling and evaluating all submitted data.
By these means it is hoped to further enhance the usefulness of the IAEA tritium interlaboratory comparison exercises.
