Summary

This document provides a detailed set of guidelines that can be used by a country in proceeding down the OIE Pathway and that culminates in an international OIE recognition of freedom from rinderpest and its causative virus. These guidelines are based on the official OIE Pathway but offer practical information on what is needed to achieve the three stages that form the basis of this pathway - national provisional declaration of freedom from infection, an OIE declaration of freedom from the disease and a final OIE declaration of eradication of rinderpest. At each stage, the various requirements for surveillance are dealt with along with the laboratory testing requirements. This guideline is being used by all countries involved in the eradication of rinderpest.
