Dosimetry and Medical Radiation Physics

E2.10.06 Testing of the implemention of the Code of Practice for dosimetry in x-ray diagnostic radiology

Background:

Following the recommendation of a consultants’ meeting in 1999, a Coordinated Research Project was undertaken during 2000-2003 with the task of producing an International Code of Practice (CoP) for dosimetry in diagnostic radiology (E2.10.03). A draft of the CoP was prepared that will be reviewed by representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), by the International Organization of Medical Physics (IOMP), and by scientists from standards laboratories and hospitals. Following the review, the CoP will be published by the end of 2006.
The current CRP is a continuation of activities of the CRP E2.10.03 and was approved in April 2005. This practical exercise will help to meet demands of Member States for the Agency’s support in disseminating the new Code of Practice for dosimetry in diagnostic radiology to standards laboratories and end-users in hospitals. At the 1st Research Co-ordination Meeting (RCM) held in Vienna in late 2005, an action plan was agreed and coordinators for various activities were selected. It is expected to complete the project in 2007.
