E2.40.14 Development of procedures for in vivo dosimetry in radiotherapy
Background:
In vivo dosimetry in radiotherapy involves the measurement of radiation
doses to patients during their radiation treatment to ensure that the treatments
are carried out as intended. It is considered an essential part of the quality
assurance (QA) programme of the radiotherapy department. In vivo dosimetry
is a suitable tool for the assessment of the accuracy and precision of the
treatment delivery, detection of systematic errors and prevention of radiation
accidents. Although it may not prevent a single dose misadministration,
it will minimize the possibility of escalating such an event to many treatments
or many patients.
