Nuclear Medicine

Completed Co-ordinated Research Projects

CRP Number: E1.30.21
CRP Title: Comparative evaluation of ictal brain SPECT, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and X-ray computerized tomography (CT) of brain in the management of patients with refractory seizures
Objective: To evaluate the exact role of Brain SPECT vis a vis MRI and CT in the management of epilepsy, to establish the role of epilepsy surgery in containing the disease and to formulate a management strategy for patients suffering from refractory seizure.
Number of RCMs: 1
Next RCM: -
Year of Commencement: Dec. 2000
Number of Contract Holders: 10

CRP Number: E1.10.14
CRP Title: CRP to compare clinical applications software between nuclear medicine laboratories by software phantoms developed by the Agency and COST-B2 project
Objective: To establish feasible and useful methods for quality assurance of nuclear medicine software with software phantoms which have been developed by the Agency and the EU COST Committee (COST B2).
Number of RCMs: 2
Next RCM: -
Year of Commencement: Dec. 1999
Number of Contract Holders: 8

CRP Number: E1.10.13
CRP Title: Development and validation of an Internet based clinical and technical study communication system for nuclear medicine
Objective: To develop and validate sets of clinical/technical study image files on the Internet that may be used for telenuclear medicine, teleconsultation and collaborative research on a number of clinical conditions where nuclear medicine investigations play a major role in their management.
Number of RCMs: 2
Next RCM: -
Year of Commencement: Dec. 1998
Number of Contract Holders: 9

CRP Number: E1.50.17
CRP Title: Development of an Improved Serological Kit for Chagas Diagnosis Using Radionuclide Methods
Objective: To further optimise the methodology (a recently concluded CRP has demonstrated an increased specificity and sensitivity of combinations of recombinant antigens, compared to using parasite extracts, for the diagnosis of Chagas disease) by using additional antigens, increase its reproducibility and its applicability over a wider geographical distribution, with the ultimate goal of producing an improved serological diagnostic kit. Furthermore, a test for typing different strains of T.cruzi will be developed.
Number of RCMs: 2
Next RCM: -
Year of Commencement: 1999
Number of Contract Holders: 11

CRP Number: E1.30.18
CRP Title: Study the relationship between recurrent lower respiratory tract infection, gastro-esophageal reflux and bronchial asthma in children
Objective: To identify any possible association between gastroesophageal reflux (GER), recurrent lower respiratory tract infection and bronchial asthma in children and to recommend a diagnostic algorithm and therapeutic strategy for the management of such children.
Number of RCMs: 2
Year of Commencement: 1999
Number of Contract Holders: 9

CRP Number: E1.50.18
CRP Title: Significance of Viral Load and Virus Type in Hepatitis B and C for Pathogenesis and Treatment Efficacy
Objective: To focus on genotyping and quantitating the viral load both of which appear important in disease progression and treatment efficacy. Some participants will investigate the newly discovered TTV virus and develop innovative techniques for genotyping and quantitating viral load.
Number of RCMs: 2
