RADIOISOTOPE PRODUCTION AND RADIATION TECHNOLOGY
The programme on Radioisotope Production and Radiation Technology responds to Member State requests for radiopharmaceuticals, radioanalytical services, industrial and environmental applications. Use of radioisotopes and radiation technology remain among the best technologies available and an economically attractive option in many applications for sustainable development. The title of the programme has been changed from 'Physical and Chemical Applications' to 'Radioisotope Production and Radiation Technology' to reflect better the new content.
The research projects involved in the programme aim to enhance the contribution of nuclear techniques towards meeting the needs and interest of Member States (MS). Radiation and radioisotope technologies promise new developments in new products/services. The transferring of know-how to developing MS has been promoting.
Objectives:
In Radioisotopes, Radiophamaceuticals and Radioanalytical Techniques:
- Emphasis on radioisotope production from reactor and cyclotrons
- Radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis and therapy.
- New F-18 compounds and other PET products.
- Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) & Quality Assurance (QA) for therapeutic products and PET radiopharmaceuticals.
- Quality management in research and application of nuclear techniques.
In Radiotracers and Radiation Technologies:
- Continuing demand by MSs for technology transfer in applications of radiography, nucleonic gauges, radiotracers and radiation processing,
- Expanded use of radiation technology for sterilisation of medical devices and decontamination of cosmetics and food products,
- Focus on electron beam processing,
- Radiation sources for harsh industrial conditions,
- NDE and digital radiography for industrial applications.
- Radiation technology for cleaner industry and safer life.
- Radiation technology for development of advanced materials for application in healthcare, agriculture, industry and the environment.
The programme on Radioisotope Production and Radiation Technology has two sub- programmes:
Subprogramme I.1.: Technology support to radioisotopes, radiopharmaceuticals and radioanalytical services
Subprogramme I.2.: Radiation technology for industrial applications and a safer environment
