Nubian Aquifer Shared Aquifer Diagnostic Analysis/Strategic Action Programme (SADA/SAP) Training Course and SADA Planning/Management Meeting
From March 24 to 29, in Khartoum, Sudan, the Nubian Aquifer Shared Aquifer Diagnostic Analysis/Strategic Action Programme(SADA/SAP) Training Course and SADA Planning/Management Meeting was held. The meeting, a critical step in implementing the joint IAEA/UNDP/GEF Nubian Aquifer Project, involved representatives from all four of the participating countries including Chad, Egypt, Libya and Sudan.
A key output of the Nubian Aquifer Project is to prepare and agree on a ‘Shared Aquifer Diagnostic Analysis (SADA)’ -- an objective, non-negotiated assessment using best available verified scientific information to examine the state of the environment and the root causes for its degradation. Another is the preparation of a ‘Strategic Action Programme (SAP)’ to outline the necessary legal, policy and institutional reforms needed to address the priority threats and their root causes as identified in the SADA.
