IAEA cancer therapy assistance
PACT builds on the IAEA's long experience in working to improve access to safe and effective cancer treatment. Since 1980 the Agency has established or upgraded radiotherapy centres throughout Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe and the Asia Pacific region. The IAEA provides essential equipment and training for physicians and other health professionals. (see map)
To date, the IAEA has provided some $202 million in cancer-related assistance to developing countries, through its Technical Cooperation programme. But more than $1 billion will be needed over the next ten years to deal with the cancer crisis in the developing world.
